“Give me your heart, make it real or else forget about it.” — Rob Thomas

So, how’s it going with those resolutions? Are you still on track? Do you feel focused? Or, are the drib drab details of your existing life getting in the way of your new direction?

If you are already starting to lose your momentum, you are NOT alone.

One of the biggest mistakes I make when setting new directions is to have TOO MANY GOALS. So, what I suggest is starting out with 3 Goal Areas at the absolute most.

The question at this point is — what are the goal areas that you want to work on? To get you started, let’s think about some basic categories: Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual. You could also try — Financial, Work Related, Key Relationships and Personal. Once you’ve picked some major areas, or categories — then we can start to focus on particular Goals in these areas.

Brainstorm a list of potential Goal Areas — rank them, and then let’s start with the top three.

As always — share your ideas!

Live Large,

“Do you know where you’re going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you?” — Diana Ross

What are you all about? What do you believe in? What is your mission in life? Why are you here?

In order to feel engaged and I alive I think you need to have the answers to these questions, so let’s give it a try.

List your key Core Values — the things that really make you tick. A bit deeper than words like honesty, love, etc. — write out a few of the foundational things that need to be present in life in order for your passion to come forward.

For example: Physical fitness and activity; Care, compassion and service to others; Openness, Honesty and Transparenecy — those are a few of mine.

Next, take a few minutes to brainstorm or refine your mission. My life mission is to help others align with their gifts and passion in order to live in that passion in every second of every minute of every hour of every day. Imagine a world where everyone was doing this.

When you have come up with your Core Values and Personal Mission Statement, chime in here — let me know what you think and, if you’d like, share your Values and Mission Statements in order to inspire others.

“Vision without action is just a dream. Action without vision is a nightmare.”

Happy New Year my friends. We have another week at home and we just got back from working out at our local club. Wow! It’s full of New Year’s Resolution work out people. The regulars all complain about the fact that every machine is full and that all of these “resolution types” jam up the place in January. Just January.

I think that’s pretty sad. The thing I think is sad is that lots of folks get their hopes up and they muster the energy TO GET STARTED, but they don’t make a plan TO KEEP GOING. This is why I’m dedicating the entire year in 2011 to helping my readers KEEP IT GOING.

Each week I’ll put out a new post with a tip to help you keep moving forward with your 2011 goals. Let’s share information with your posts and help each other grow in the direction of our intentions for 2011. We’ll share our goals, resolutions or intentions next week — but first let’s reflect on a couple of things.

Write these things down:

1) What were your major accomplishments in 2010?

2) Who are the folks who can help you the most with your dreams in 2011?

3) What are your major strengths?

Let’s GO!

Live Large,

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step.”

–Martin Luther King Jr.

Happy New Year!

How many of you have written New Years Resolutions? The process of writing and breaking New Years Resolutions has become so frustrating for so many of us, we’ve given up on the process.

Does this describe you?

It doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, the intentional energy around creating New Years Resolutions is the FIRST STEP towards making change. Unfortunately, most people don’t follow that first step with the actions necessary to actually make the changes stick!

If I could lay out a very simple process for you that actually works, would you like to know what it is?

Try this…

1) Get yourself a Goal Notebook for 2009 — ($.59 composition notebook at Staples.)

2) Within the next day or so, write down all of the things you achieved in 2008. You’ll be amazed.

3) Make a list of everything you’d like to achieve in 2009. Don’t worry about being incredibly specific with this list. This is your 2009 Master List. From time to time, feel free to add to or scratch out items on this list.

4) From the Master List, choose 2 things you would like to accomplish in January. These need to be SMART Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound things that you can do to either accomplish or progress items you have on your 2009 master list. This is your 30 Day SMART List.

5) Review your 30 Day SMART list daily, and move specific items to your Daily To-Do List. At the beginning of each month, repeat the process of creating a new 30 Day SMART List.

In 2008 I talked about Kaizen — the Japanese word for continuous improvement — a concept the Japanese learned from Dr. Deming back in the 50’s. It’s slow, steady, sustainable, goal-based improvement, and I’ve just given you the secret to making it work for you.

If you’d like some help — contact me — I have several Coaching options available. Here is just one example of feedback from a happy Soul Canyon client:

“Without your coaching my company, Art Affects by Deano LLC, would not be a reality. You encouraged me to develop my passion for photography and original unique shadow box design…to imagine it as a viable successful business. I must admit it was a stretch for me and you helped me bridge the gap between dreaming and starting a profitable adventure. With your encouragement Art Affects by Deano now has a developed business plan and organization chart…

It is with gratitude and appreciation that I take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done for me as a person and my business. I heartily recommend you!”

– Dean Serkes, Art Affects by Deano LLC

Ready to make real change? We can help!

All of us at Soul Canyon Training & Development wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Peace,
Rob, Mary & Wes
