New Years Resolutions & New Way
“You don’t have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step.”
–Martin Luther King Jr.
Happy New Year!
How many of you have written New Years Resolutions? The process of writing and breaking New Years Resolutions has become so frustrating for so many of us, we’ve given up on the process.
Does this describe you?
It doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, the intentional energy around creating New Years Resolutions is the FIRST STEP towards making change. Unfortunately, most people don’t follow that first step with the actions necessary to actually make the changes stick!
If I could lay out a very simple process for you that actually works, would you like to know what it is?
Try this…
1) Get yourself a Goal Notebook for 2009 — ($.59 composition notebook at Staples.)
2) Within the next day or so, write down all of the things you achieved in 2008. You’ll be amazed.
3) Make a list of everything you’d like to achieve in 2009. Don’t worry about being incredibly specific with this list. This is your 2009 Master List. From time to time, feel free to add to or scratch out items on this list.
4) From the Master List, choose 2 things you would like to accomplish in January. These need to be SMART Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound things that you can do to either accomplish or progress items you have on your 2009 master list. This is your 30 Day SMART List.
5) Review your 30 Day SMART list daily, and move specific items to your Daily To-Do List. At the beginning of each month, repeat the process of creating a new 30 Day SMART List.
In 2008 I talked about Kaizen — the Japanese word for continuous improvement — a concept the Japanese learned from Dr. Deming back in the 50’s. It’s slow, steady, sustainable, goal-based improvement, and I’ve just given you the secret to making it work for you.
If you’d like some help — contact me — I have several Coaching options available. Here is just one example of feedback from a happy Soul Canyon client:
“Without your coaching my company, Art Affects by Deano LLC, would not be a reality. You encouraged me to develop my passion for photography and original unique shadow box design…to imagine it as a viable successful business. I must admit it was a stretch for me and you helped me bridge the gap between dreaming and starting a profitable adventure. With your encouragement Art Affects by Deano now has a developed business plan and organization chart…
It is with gratitude and appreciation that I take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done for me as a person and my business. I heartily recommend you!”
