What is Your True Reward?

What is Your True Reward?

“Every achiever that I have ever met says, ‘My life turned around when I began to believe in me.’”
— Dr. Robert H. Schuller
“We cannot achieve more in life than what we believe in our heart of hearts we deserve to have.”
— James R. Ball

The process of attracting abundance starts with defining what abundance is for you. For me, I link abundance with reward. When I do a good job of giving my gifts, things that I consider to be rewards come in to my life. For me these are things like — more time with my family, opportunities to be outside in beautiful places doing physical things and generally having fun. These are my rewards. Too often we accept external definitions of what the world considers to be rewards — which completely messes with our internal value system.

If we externally define a reward as something our heart deeply says is NOT a reward, then we close the door to abundance. For example, if you do an awesome job and you land an account and your “reward” is a new position with more money, and more hours away from your family — is that really a reward? If you love to spend time with people and your “reward” is a position that takes you off the front line and away from customers — is that really a reward?

Define your rewards and list them. Those things that truly make your heart sing. Money doesn’t count. Money has no value in and of itself. It is merely a value transfer device. If money pops in to your mind, think of what you want the money to buy. Security? Fun with your family? A college education?

The second major step in attracting abundance involves believing you deserve it. What do you believe about yourself? You need to believe that in your heart of hearts you have a deep and profound gift for the world — and that if you make it your mission to rediscover that gift and offer it, the universe is designed to reward you for that.

“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.”
— Matthew 5:15

Often the trick here is reconnecting to your gifts, since most of us have been busily hiding them as we’ve grown up. The good news is that you can use a relatively simple process that may take some time, to reconnect.

After you’ve defined your rewards, reconnected to your gifts and believe you are deserving of abundance — you need to initiate a process to stay supported on your path. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and let those who don’t fade into the background. Let it flow — it will start happening with ease, if you simply let it.
