Baby Steps

Make learning a daily habit to achieve meaningful goals

Baby Steps

“You can’t cross the sea merely by staring at the water.” — Rabindranath Tagore

How are you doing with your 2017 goals? Are you on track? Have you taken the time to identify small actions that you can take every day to lead you steadily down the path of what achieve this year? If so – WONDERFUL! If, on the other hand, you are starting to feel frustrated that you haven’t been able to get off the dime, I want to share a couple of thoughts with you.

At various times, especially around the beginning of a new year, we get inspired to change and grow. This spark of inspiration is good, but it’s only the first step. Inspiration needs to be followed by focused planning and repeated action if we are going to see our goals to fruition. One place that we get off track in the beginning is by biting off WAY more than we can chew, then quickly becoming discouraged as we get behind the 8-ball immediately.

In the beginning, take baby steps and celebrate each step you take. Measure and celebrate often because this helps build your internal “fuel cells” that will make your journey of growth sustainable. If you have a goal to exercise more, then start slowly and build as you can. Start by working out 3 times per week for about 20 minutes each time. Do something that you’ll enjoy and put a check mark in red on the calendar every day you do it. As you do this you will NATURALLY want to do more — guaranteed, but do it gradually. Progress from 20 minutes to 30 minutes and from 3 days per week to 4 days per week.

“Only those who make the climb get to enjoy the summit.” — Dan Millman,

It’s not too late to take baby steps and see some real progress before the end of 2017. Remember to celebrate each step you take. As always, let us know if you need some help the first call is always free.

Focused action is the key to meaningful growth and accomplishment. Making any change is difficult because subconsciously we want things to stay the same. To overcome this we need to start slowly and build a solid foundation — gradually building momentum and energy as we experience the results of our efforts.

Until next time,
