Make learning a daily habit to achieve meaningful goals

Unlearning the Old Habits and Behaviors is the Key to Continuous Transformation

“The illiterate of the 21st Century will not be those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.” — Alvin Toffler

“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending” — C.S. Lewis

Do you sabotage your own goals? Do you ever want to make changes in your life – but feel this powerful gravitational force holding you back? In all likelihood, the “force” is your own unconscious mind.

Our unconscious minds are wonderfully powerful. They are huge databases that own our emotions and do about 99% of our mental processing completely in the background. Our unconscious minds are able to do this because once the “program” is written and learned it can be executed the same way every time – with amazing speed. Our unconscious minds love this speed and stability, which is wonderful……

….until we want to change.

Unlearning is the first and most necessary step in upgrading our unconscious “maps” or “databases” and unlearning is not comfortable or easy. Unlearning involves confronting gut level resistance to something new or different and bringing that resistance into consciousness with questions like — “Where did I learn that?” or “Why do I feel that way?” or “I wonder if I could be wrong about this?” or “What if there is something to this?”

Unlearning involves a willingness to at least put your old belief systems into question if the evidence coming through your conscious mind is compelling.

It takes the average adult 6 to 10 times of hearing something new before our unconscious minds START to take it seriously and about 30 days to habituate, or “reprogram” ourselves with moderately complex concepts, skills or knowledge.

Rather than allowing ourselves to become anchored and in dogma and, to live powerfully authentic, awakened lives we need to constantly question what we think we “know” about the world and our fellow beings.

Awareness of where resistance to change this the important first step to setting the stage for growth. Our next step in Creating Your 2018 is to be aware of the resistance to change.

Your 2018 Guidebook will help you keep your goals in sight and help you stay on track. I like to note when I experience push back and make a note to myself why I want to achieve this goal. Don’t have a 2018 Guidebook? Contact Mary for your free DYI instructions.

Some thoughts about achieving your goals in 2018. I have 3 coaching spots left if you’d like some help.

Keep it up!

Until next time,
